Dslr for beginners, leaning towards Nikon D3100?

I currently have a Nikon Coolpix S3100 but I want something to take better quality pictures, that's good for taking scenic photos and photos of people. I want a camera that is decent, good for someone new to dslr's and not a huge amount of money.
If you have any advice on a camera that'd be good or if the Nikon D3100 is the way to go please let me know :)

Will Nikon CoolPix camera work without memory card in it?

We just purchased this bad boy from the great state of Arkansas but we cant see anything! Is it possibly due to no memory card in the slot? I thought we should see something without the memory but no…

Best DSLR Camera for beginners?

Okay so I guess I'm an amature in photography, not quite a beginner but with DSLR cameras I will be. I'm looking for a nice DSLR camera that I would be able to progress with, but would still be semi-simple enough for me to learn how to use.

Currently I have a Nikon Coolpix p90 and I'm looking for something in a price range up to 1, 500 dollars. (Cheaper would be better though if I can still get a good quality camera because I'm a 15 year old girl. D: I don't exactly have mounds of money laying around and I get payed minimum wage: p )

So any cameras (and links) would be helpful! If you know any for sale I'd love took at them, refurbished is okay, I would like a new one but yeah I'd like some help because I'm not totally sure what I want

Only the last 100 or so pics are deleted.why, and how can I retrieve them?

I have a Nikon coolpix L120 camera. I took a photo for ebay, loaded it on my computer and while I was in there I deleted a few pics I didn't need anymore. I unplugged the usb cord. I didn't like the pic I had just taken so I took a photo, plugged in the camera and when I went to upload the new pic it wasn't there and neither was the entire folder it should have been in. None of my pics since August 9th are there. They aren't in my recycling bin on my computer either. I don't know what happened.My son's first day of kindergarten as well as other treasured photos..all gone? How can I find them? I tried downloading one of those photo recovery programs but it recovered photos of alienware logos, which were never on my camera so now I'm lost.It doesn't seem to see my camera. PLEASE I will take any tips. Tahnks!

How to control brightness with Nikon Coolpix L310 (4 sec shutter speed)?

I just recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix L310, I have pretty much got a hang of all the settings except the fireworks one that uses a long shutter speed (4 secs). I use a tripod and everything as I want to capture water flowing over rocks you know that special effect? Well no matter what I capture the resulting image is too bright to see :( Theres no info in the manual or anything. Basically when Im capturing the image the light is perfect but when it shows up on the camera after the 4 seconds its as if Ive tried to take a picture of the sun. Theres no way of changing settings while using this mode, Please help :(

Are there any hacks for the nikon coolpix l110? i.e. RAW enabled, shutter priority… etc
Added (1). K so i know for a fact that cameras can be hacked in the way i described via connecting them to the computer and editing the firmware.i know a lot about cameras and realize there not toys.what i should have asked was "does anyone know any hacks for the nikon coolpix l110?"
