Is it time to move up from a point and shoot to a DSLR?

I have recently gotten really into photography, and want to know if i should upgrade my Nikon Coolpix P500 to a DSLR camera. I am going into to high school next year and am expecting to be taking many photography classes. I am also about to go on a series of trips.In school, because it's our last year there in middle school we are taking a trip to Mexico. Then, during the summer before high school me and my family are going to Paris! We also have two trips planned for Californian in between, including Disneyland. On all of these trips I expect to be taking MANY photos and want to know if it's just overall time to upgrade. Being that I am basically turning into someone who has their camera everywhere, should I upgrade to DSLR? I'm starting to feel like my Nikon point and shoot isn't going to hold up with all the photos I'm about to start taking in the next few months. Also, if I do get a DSLR I was looking at the Nikon D3100. I hear it's a good "entry level" DSLR camera. Would it be right for me?

If you celebrate christmas, what do you want?
I would like some of these things, but I unfortunately " santa " might not be able to afford it. These are some things I want, … a professional camera ( Nikon 1 / Coolpix P510 / or Canon Rebel 4Ti ), MONEY MONEY MONEY, New decorations for my room, and other little trinkets! Im really excited for christmas <3 Are you !?

Can't decide between Nikon or Fujifilm?

I want a new digital camera for Christmas but I can't decide which is the better value. Nikon has a cool camera called Nikon Coolpix L310 and has 14.1mp and 21x optical zoom and is $200. There is also a camera that is by Fujifilm and is called Finepix S4200 with 14mp and 24x optical zoom and is $180. Please let me know which sounds like a better value, better brand name, better reliability and stuff like that. Thank you!

Broken Battery Compartment on Nikon Coolpix L24?

I received a the Nikon Coolpix L24 as a gift last Christmas and recently, the small clip that held the battery compartment closed, snapped off.Is there anyway to repair this? Or is the camera completely done for? I know that I could simply tape the compartment closed, but I feel as though that wouldn't be entirely wise. I doubt it would be hard to fix, but I could be wrong. Could someone recommend any ideas or suggestions?

Note: The camera does not have a warranty on it, therefore the company isn't liable for what happened to the camera.
Added (1). It's not the compartment itself, I'm sorry for my inaccurate explanation.It's a small clip that held the compartment shut on the inside when you slide the door back into place. The door itself is king of spring loaded.

Im having some difficulty in choosing between nikon coolpix s6300 and sony cybershot wx50..which one has bettr photo quality especially in low light phitography?
