How to get rid of the glaring light in this photo?

I remember seeing somewhere a photo that a woman edited to see through the light and actually see what was in the window or doorway and her original photo was just completely bright and glared like it is in my own photo here. How do I edit it out like that?

And how do I refrain from even having to edit it and just take a better photo? What settings do I use? The camera I use the most is Nikon Coolpix L100.

Are dlsr cameras good for beginners?


im going to take a photojounalism class next year in high school and the class requires me to have a camera. I dont have one yet but im hoping for one this chrismas. Ive been looking at many cameras, and i like the canon t5 but im afraid it might be hard for me to use it since im a beginner, ive also been looking at cameras such as canon powershot sx530 or any nikon coolpix camera, i dont want any camera above $350. What do you guys think i should do, get the canon t5, learn how to use it or get the canon power or nikon coolpix.
