Some help on racing photography?

First of all, the specifics of the subject of racing are karts. I want to know how to have the background blurred and focused in on the vehicle, giving the essence of speed. The camera to be used is a Nikon coolpix L120, if that's any help.example: http://www.kartcom.com/com_kart_asset/4794/Vandoorne.jpg

What are timers (camera)?

My camera, a Nikon Coolpix S3300, has a 2-second and a 10-second timer. What does that mean? What does it mean?
Added (1). Also, when would I really need to use it?
Added (2). *What does it do? Sorry, just realized I said the same thing twice.

Under £300 good camera?

Hi,

I'm looking to get a good camera (from amazon) for under £300. The cameras I have looked at are
Nikon COOLPIX P510
Canon Powershot sx50
Fuji HS30EXR

Does you know any better ones in that price range, and what one out of those would you get?

Thanks

Nikon P2 Coolpix Camera - Making me Crazy! Pictures are dark and many are blurred?

I have a Nikon Coolpix P2 camera. I have to stand 3 feet away from my subject in order to get a flash picture to come out right. Outside it takes great pics but indoors it sucks big time! Does anyone have any advice?

I have tried working with the settings, I have tried calling Nikon (they told me to reset to factory settings - duh!).

The "scene" settings are much to ambigious. They almost never fit the situation and besides who in the heck wants to be fumbling for a setting when all you want to do is take a picture!

I got this camera as a gift - it was a welcome and wonderful gift however, it is turning into a nightmare as I struggle beyond words to "operate" this very disappointing camera.
