Great camera under $500?

I am getting a camera for my birthday (I need to choose one in a couple of days) but, the camera has to be under $500.

I want the camera to be able to take great quality pictures and to also be able to shoot HD videos (1080 preferably). I don't want another point and shoot camera, I already have one of my own right now which is great but, I want a camera to take more than just family photos and selfies (lol). I find photography quite interesting and I'm seeking a great starter camera for my love of photography.

What are some good quality cameras under this price range?
Would the canon eos rebel t3 be a good pick? Or, perhaps the nikon coolpix p520 optical zoom digital camera? I need suggestions! :) :)

Can I take my camera to American Airlines Center in Dallas for a concert?

Cause im going to a One Direction concert in three weeks and i'm gonna be really far and have only one camera which is the Nikon Coolpix L810. Also the website says the lens can't be 3 inches or more into AAC for concert and my lens is 1.5 inches it looks like this

Do they mean the lens that you can attach to them or on the camera?

How to change my videos from.mov to.wmv from my camera?

My camera is a Nikon Coolpix S5200(color is purple) and it seems like it can only take.mov (QuickTime Video Files) and it won't go into my Window Movie Maker which only accepts.wmv(Window Media Video Files). I could convert it online on a website (convertfiles.com) I use but it's taking forever because this video is 30 minutes long and I want to cut stuff out and edit it on my Movie Maker. If you know a way to change it easy on my camera so that when I transfer the videos it turns into.wmv right away OR if you know a website that is faster OR a software that is free and super easy to use and simple (if it's similar to the vooby converter that would be nice but I found out that vooby isn't really useful and I can't seem to download it again, maybe because the website has viruses?) then PLEASE TELL AND HELP ME!

Nikon D3100 or Canon T1i?

I need an upgrade for my EP-L2 and I'm looking to buy a low cost DSLR to get out of the m4/3 marketplace. The main issue is that I understand as soon as I decide which camera to buy, I will be forever committed to that company's lenses and bodies. This is why I lean more towards the Nikon, since they have a larger lens market and their bodies are far more affordable.

HOWEVER, I love the Canon bodies and the features they have. I also like the video quality compared to the Nikon, which is why I'm a bit at a standstill. They both have a similar resolution, the Nikon being 14.1 million pixels and the Canon only having one million more pixels than that.

I really cannot decide which camera to shoot for, no pun intended.

SD card won't work in camera?

I have a Nikon Coolpix L120 and am currently trying to use a new brand SD card in it. Its an 8gb Lexar SDHC card and for some reason it keeps asking to format and won't format and also this, "This card cannot be used". I have no idea why it would do this since it as taking pictures fine before. I usually used SanDisk or UltraDisk but the SD cards are the same, I've made sure of it, so how come it would be doing this and how can I fix it?
Added (1). @Jini Thankyou so so much, I just did that and its working now, thankyou heaps! You'll get best answer when I can select it haha!
Added (2). Ok so I formatted it in the computer and then formatted it in my camera and its just refusing to cooperate. I took a few photos and then turned it on again and it said the camera wasn't formatted and did what I said it was doing before so I'm getting really fu*king frustrated now honestly.
