Is a shutter speed of 1/2000 - 1 sec a good speed for taking pics of my toddler?

I am looking at a Nikon coolpix 12.1 megapixel camera to take pictures of my ever changing 8 month old. I don't want to miss the cute things he does and the camera I currently have has such a delay that I am constantly missing things.

I have a Nikon Coolpix L28 camera and it won't turn on?

I looked online and it said to try to take out the batteries and memory card and it didn't work? I also charged it for a couple hours and nothing worked? It also makes this weird clicking noise when I click or hold down the on button, I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I really need my camera!

Can we use external flash with Nikon Coolpix P80?

I'm finding an external flash that compatible to my Nikon Coolpix P80. I have found that P80 is not compatible with other external flash. But I have tried with Nissin external flash. And its works! Please help me find that type of model. Thanks!
