Why does my Nikon Coolpix P510 say out of memory?

I have a Nikon Coolpix P510 that recently started saying "out of memory" even though there is only 150 or so pictures. I have a 16GB SD card that should definitely not be full with 150 pictures.

I think I may have hit a button that changed a setting at some point on accident but I'm not sure.

The last time I offloaded my pictures I noticed that on the SD card under the DCIM folder there were numerous folders named 100Nikon, 101Nikon, 102Nikon, etc. But I deleted the empty folders because I thought it was just unnecessary clutter. Could I perhaps have accidently deleted folders I shouldn't have?

I'm on vacation and can't edit the SD card until I get home but would really like to fix this now.

Any help will be appreciated. Why won't my camera hold any more pictures?!

Help Picking Camera for Valentine's Day Gift?

Hi, photo enthusiasts. :)

I need your advice on what camera to buy my boyfriend for Valentine's Day.
I'm trying to find something that will:

1. Be portable enough that he won't have to carry around a camera bag or feel like he can't take casual photography.

2. Take high quality photos and help him have flexibility in learning about photography -- hence why I don't really just want to get a point-and-shoot.

3. Not be too intimidating, price-wise (It's not like I'm going to show him the price tag, but I don't want him to feel uncomfortable about getting this gift)

4. He has mentioned wanting a camera that takes normal batteries because his family has had issues with camera batteries dying… But I don't think they make anything beyond a point-and-shoot with normal, changeable batteries, correct?

He's not really much of a photographer right now, but he has mentioned wanting to get into it.
I'm REALLY trying to stay under $350, but as you can tell, I have some options that are a little over that. Less would be wonderful too. Here are some options that I have found so far:

What about the flip screens on cameras?

The cameras I like (Canon Powershot SX50 and Nikon Coolpix P520) have those flip screens that turn and rotate, etc.

With normal care and handling should I be concerned they will break after a while?

RE: Charging battery on the Nikon Coolpix S520?

Reading the manual it says to charge the battery while it is inside the camera body.

Is there any danger of heat damage while charging that way?

Is there an external charger available as accessory?
