First DSLR camera - really need some help?

I have always been into photography and i have produced some photographs that i am very proud of, however, it was all done on my Nikon Coolpix L120 bridge camera. I wanted to get a DSLR camera, so bought one off a friend. It is a Nikon D50 and it came with a lens that says 'AF-S Nikkor 18-135mm' which i have on the camera now and it also came with a lens that says 'Jessop 77mm'. Now this DSLR is all new to me, and i only have basic knowledge on ISO and the basics of the DSLR.

Please can someone help me just to explain what the difference is when taking photos. Every photo i take seems to go blurry and i try to focus it.

I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong and because I'm new please explain it like you were explaining it to a five year old.

Oh, one thing that i can do on the camera is slow down the shutter speed and create patterns with lights which turn out to be successful. But anything beyond this (like normal photos of things, particularity animals) would be a great thing to get help on.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Added (1). I have read the manual already just to get to grips with the basics but i don't understand the concept of the camera, what things should i use it for, what occasions etc.

Why is a DSLR camera so different and complicated than a bridge camera?

Thanks for all the help so far off everyone.

I need photography help!

I have a Nikon Coolpix L120.It's not the best camera in the world, but it's definitely not the worst. I have quite a bit of questions regarding multiple things.
Is there any way to make the shutter speed faster?
Any way for my camera to focus on the subject better and blur out the background?
I need a white background, how can I make that?
I dont have photoshop, how else can i edit the photo so the background is whiter?
Thank you!!!

Trouble with Nikon Coolpix P60 Manual Mode?

When i try to take pictures without the flash on manual mode, the images always turn out black, with only the most intense of light showing in one spot.i really want to use manual mode because of the high shutter speed settings i can get from it, only i dont want that stupid flash, has anyone figured this out? no im not an idiot, ive read the manual, ive changed settings for the past three days ive had it trying to figure it out, and still nothing.

i DONT want some lame link to a nikon help site, or a p60 manual.ive LOOKED myself, thankyou.i want a personal opinion or advice.
Added (1). Screwdriver:

I am not cranking the shutter speed faster and faster, if i had taken a first image and it was bright enough, while the others got darker and darker i think id be able to figure out NOT to do that.this is every single image i take. The iso ive cranked upto 2000 in broad daylight, the images are viewable but the noise is ridiculous, ive tried on lower settings.i have the shutter speed set as high as itll go: 1/1200, and even with it at a lower setting, 1/30 for example, which is what the automated setting is in other preset picture taking options, its still just as dark.ive played with the aperture, with no luck.ill fiddle around with it more i suppose, maybe i need that one perfect combination of settings.also, id like to add that all other preset or automated image taking options do just fine in the light im trying to take pics in with manual mode.

How to take a good self-portrait indoors?

I have a Nikon Coolpix 3200, it it takes great pictures outdoors, but not so much inside. I know there's certain settings you can choose, but I don't know that much about it, so I don't know what to set it to.
Often when I'm taking pictures indoors, it'll turn out really blurry, no matter how still I hold it. I don't own a tripod, and I don't really have the extra money to get one anytime soon.
Are there tips or settings that could help improve the quality of my photos? Any help will be appreciated!

WIDE ANGLE LENS or STANDARD? Any help photographers?

I own the Nikon COOLPIX S550.It has 5X OPTICAL ZOOM.

Then it says 6.3-31.5mm 1: 3.5 - 5.6

What is this? Is this wide angle or is this close to how the human eye sees? I'm trying to take good photos, but when I take them sometimes my head looks big and round and I notice the room has a circular look when I'm filming. Thanks

What batteries are best for my Nikon Coolpix L120?

It takes 4 AA batteries, I've tried Duracell Ultra, which are nearly empty now, after 1 day. Which are the best to use? I need some that last a while as I use the camera a lot, for gigs and days out and stuff. Can you use rechargeable batteries in it? If so, which ones?
