A while ago I was into photogrophy and I got a Nikon Coolpix P80. Recently I have gotten a lot more into taking pictures and I have been looking at a lot of DSLR cameras and their lenses. Why does my Coolpix have an 18X zoom and is 27-486mm, while a normal DSLR kit lens is 18-55mm. The Coolpix has a much larger range. Why is this? How can they do that on the Coolpix normal lens? Sorry this is a beginner question, but as I said I am just getting into it all.
