How to take a decent indoor picture with my Nikon Coolpix L810?

I have a Nikon Coolpix L810.It takes wonderful pictures outside and in natural lighting, but the pictures are so bad when I'm inside, even if the lighting is pretty decent.
I tried putting my camera on the party / indoor setting but it doesn't help.

I'm 17 years old & already planning on studying Filmmaking in USC or NYU?

First of all, what school is better in the Film area. USC or NYU?
Also, I want to start making short films with a friend, but since he's going to live in Miami after summer, and I don't own a camera (he does) I have to get my own camera and I was thinking of a Nikon Coolpix L810 or L820. What do you guys think of it? I don't want a professional camera since I can't afford it plus, I just want to be able to record and edit on my Macbook Pro.
P.S: What editing app/program do you recommend for Mac?

Best compact digital camera (s)?

I am going on a cruise to Alaska in May and am looking to buy a new camera. We need a really long zoom, with a minimum of 30x. We are not looking to purchase a DSLR because we are not professionals and do not wish to carry the heavy equipment around. We also do not want to pay more than $300 (excluding tax and accessories), as we already have the trip to pay for. However, we are not going all the way to Alaska to get bad pictures! We have been looking at the Nikon Coolpix L820 (it is brand new and there are no customer reviews, however, its predecessor, the L810 got really good reviews). The Nikon Coolpix P510 is also of interest (the newer one, the P520, is too expensive for us) and the Canon Powershot SX500. Both of these, however, are older cameras (about 6 months to a year I believe). Does anyone have any suggestions as to which of the 3 is better? I have done my research and it seems the Coolpix P510 is the best if you can afford it, and next would be the Coolpix L820. Would appreciate any thoughts/input.

I am looking for a new camera?

I am wanting a high zoom (40x zoom or higher) and I rounded my choices to Canon PowerShot SX50 12.1 MP Ultra-Zoom Digital Camera with 50x Optical Zoom and Nikon COOLPIX P510 Black 16MP Digital Camera w/ 42x Optical Zoom Lens. Between those two what would your pick be and why and is there something else that you would recommend no more than $450. There is about a $60 difference between the two. I own a smaller nikon but I am leaning toward the Canon… Thanks for the advice.
Added (1). I will be attending a race and need something with a good zoom. And I am not much of a photographer so I want the camera to do the work… Not big on DSLR's…

My camera wont connect to my computer? - 1

Ok, so i have a nikon coolpix L24, when i want to put my videos and pictures onto my laptop i just plug my camera in to the laptop via a USB, and it usually works, it makes the little sound so i know its connected, but the other day when i tried to connect it, it made a different noise, like a dun dun dun, 3 times very quickly rather than the little dun ding noise, i cant explain it very well but it sounds like it cant read my camera or something? the laptop i have is a windows vista, intel pentium? i think, please help me it would be greatly appreciated :)

Multiple shots on nikon coolpix L810?

I got a new camera for my birthday, the Nikon coolpix L810, and in the menu it says continuous i have tried all the options but it wont let me do multi shot is there anyway i can on this camera i want to make a video with pictures like an animation please get back to me asap!
