Mobile Phones and DSLR cameras in winter?

I come from a tropical country and about to make my very first winter trip to Harbin. I know temperatures in Harbin can drop to -20 Farenheit (-30 Celcius).Is it okay for my phone (Galaxy S3/Blackberry) and Nikon DSLR camera to be exposed to such cold temperatures? Will the cold temperature damage my electronics? I heard from other people that their DSLR camera's battery life is drastically shortened, is this true? What about my phone's battery life?

I will very much appreciate if you guys can give me precautions for electronics in winter, thanks in advance!

Long Exposure for a Nikon Coolpix 510?

I've been messing around with my new coolpix camera and have finally gotten a handle on the Manual, Appeture, and Shutter settings. However, I can never set the timing for more than about eight second. I was hoping to use my new Tri -pod you capture long exposure photos such as star trails. How would I set my camera to capture a picture for about an hour or more? Is that even possible with the coolpix? If not what would be a camera to save for? Thank for the help!

My camera won't focus?

I got the Nikon Coolpix L610 because it not only takes good pictures but the records at 1080p, now i'm having a problem because while I was recording a makeup tutorial video for youtube, the camera would constantly blur out and then blur back in and focus and then it would blur out for sometimes a minute. Any advice? Please help.

Camera image quality reduced after upload?

Hi, ive just bought a new digital camera.when i take a photo the photo size is 16 mp when i upload the photo to my laptop via the supplied cable the image drops to 3 mp on computer? my camera is nikon coolpix 16 mp.i dont understand why the uploaded image is losing 13 mp.thank you .

Nikon l180 or Nikon D3000?

On Craigslist I've found a Nikon coolpics l810 for $100 and a Nikon d3000 for $200.which one is better? better photo quality? anything you can tell me would be great. I am just getting into photography and I'm looking for a good beginner camera.but I really don't want to have to replace batteries but the d3000 said he has rechargeable. I don't know what's a better deal

Why does my camera record only MOV?

Ok I know there's all kinds of camera and settings but I got this HD camera.whenever i record it. Then when i'm done recording it.i import it to my computer, play it but why only MOV. i want it to play AVI. I can't import it to movie maker.My record video file type is always MOV.Is there anyway i could change it to AVI type instead of MOV.
my camera is Nikon or COOLPIX. i can't really tell.

How to make Time-Lapse videos?

I'm new to making time-lapse videos and I would like to know more about how exactly to go about it. Currently I have a Nikon Coolpix p510. Will that work or do I need a DSLR? I also understand that I need to have a intervalometer. Generally, I'm interested in creating Star Field Time-Lapse videos.My main question and concern is about the software. When you take all the pictures at multiple second intervals, will they be put together into a video, or will I have to take all the pics and stitch them together? If that was a stupid questions and all you photography gurus are silently shaking your heads, please help! Again, I'm extremely new at this, I have tried to do some research but most of the videos were kind of out of my league… Please help!
