What is best, high end digital camera or intro level dslr?

Like, nikon p510 is a high end digital camera comes with 42x optical zoom, or like nikon d3100 intro level dslr? they are about in same price ,

Nikon Coolpix S3100 lens error?

I've had this camera for just over a year and I have never dropped it because I've always made sure to take great care of it, but after it spending a month at my friends house because I accidentally left it there the lens won't fully open. If I turn it on it'll open half way then get all jolty and stay there, the picture is really blurry. Sometimes it'll open a little more than that, and if I zoom in, it'll distort a little then I'll get a clear picture and it'll work, but I don't know why it only happens sometimes.
Also, if I look into the lens, it looks like a piece has broken off inside, but I have no idea how it would have happened, the person's house that it was at said they never used it or anything.
I am fully aware that I probably can't fix it myself and it'll likely cost more to repair than it is worth but I'm looking for more information on it if possible.
Added (1). I've just seen that when turning it on (Sorry I'm not all technical with cameras) There's a little circle hole, and something I'm assuming that is supposed to align with that hole but it's not.It's only half aligned with the hole, I'm assuming that's the problem…

Nikon camera - batteries exhausted message?

I have a Nikon Coolpix, approximately 5 years old.It has worked great until this past year. Whenever I try to use it I receive a "battery exhausted" message. I've tried different types of batteries, both fully charged rechargeable batteries and brand new alkaline batteries. After taking one or two pictures I receive the battery exhausted message. When I put the batteries in other electronics they show fully charged - but not in the camera. What can I do without having to buy a new camera?

How to tempt my parents to let me get a DSLR?

Ok so i am really getting into photography and I am starting to think about my first DSLR. last christmas I got a Nikon coolpix P500 bridge camera but i feel like i have explored a lot of what it does and am looking for a new challenge and get even more adventurous with my photos. But my parents think a photos a photo and that my camera is the same as a DSLR. they don't think i would use it enough but i know that i would.has anyone got any ideas on how to tempt her to let me.thanks for responses.

My Nikon Coolpix S3000 won't charge?

I found it a few days ago (I couldn't find it for about 4 months) and tried plugging it in to my laptop to charge it. The charging light just blinks slowly 3 times then quickly about 20 times. Does this mean there's a problem with the battery? It's plugged in right, and I tried unplugging it then plugging it in again, but it keeps doing the same thing. And if it is a battery problem, where can I buy a new one? Thanks.
Added (1). And I can't find the plug into wall charger so I was kinda hoping it would work if I used the thing you plug into your computer.My mom had said it might work since it does with hers.
Also, I said I had lost it for 4 months so I'm assuming the battery lost all it's charge.
